This work consisted of the Av. D. José Alves Correia da Silva Urban Renewal, namely the construction of a tunnel which rises with the Avenue’s unevenness in the area between the enclosure of the Sanctuary and Centro Pastoral Paulo VI.

The 500 meters long tunnel, 300 of which are buried section frames and frees space on the surface, creating a new square at the Sanctuary South/West top. The tunnel side walls were left in sight revealing the rock cut in the ground and the lighting of the tunnel is natural due to the creation of a huge opening in the south, in the center of the intervention and under the new square. 

With this work, the Avenue José Alves Correia da Silva went on to enjoy generous pedestrian boulevards, benches for rest, granite floors and adequate lighting.
