The work of Coimbra’s External Circular Road developed in two distinct phases and the first one consisted of about 5,000m which has a cross-section type of 2x2 lanes, with 3.5m wide each way,as well as a central reservation, side trips and the implementation of roundabouts connecting the EN 17, the old road Rua da Beira, and IC2 on the right riverside.
The second phase, in the North of the City, beginning near the Ribeira de Coselhas, the lower part of the city, and ending in Alto do Tovim, with a total length of about 3200 m. The cross-sectional profile is 2x2 lanes with left and right shoulders, including the implementation of a roundabout. The central reservation is on high, being in it implanted the public lighting network.
For the roads and municipal roads connection interceptive by the work it was built two uneven interchanges. The Crossroad Coselhas / Lordemão included the construction of an Overpass and Crossroad Bemposta / S.Romão integrating also an overpass and underpass.
