This work involved uprooting works, earthworks, protection systems and sealing the landfill, as well as a drainage system and rainwater harvesting, waste, and pluvial plus leachate waters drainage and capturing system, biogas drainage and capturing system and also a water supply system.

Currently, the Aveiro’s landfill has an area of 19 hectares, with two cells of 5.9 and 3.57 hectares each, with a total capacity (combined) of approximately two million cubic meters.
